BIRTHS

Marcus Antonius Vida (1485-1566), Italian humanist, a Bishop and a poet.
Charles Locock (1862-1946), British literary scholar, editor and translator, who wrote on a wide array of subjects, including chess, billiards and croquet.
Sigmund Herland (1865-15.08.1954). Romanian Master and chess composer.
Israel Schiffman 1903-29.04.1930), Ukrainian chess composer.
Vladimir Petrov (1907-1943), Latvian strong player who participated in few Olympiads before WWII. Arrested by the Soviets in 1940, he was sentenced to ten years in a corrective labor camp where he died in 1943.
Braslav Rabar (1919-06.12.1973), Croatian International Master who won the Yugoslav championship in 1951.  He is remembered for designing the Opening Classification System that was used by the Chess Informant.
John Fedorowicz (1958), US Grandmaster, author and coach who was US Junior Champion in 1978.
Igor Stohl (1964) Slovakian Grandmaster, coach and author who won the national championship title in 1984.
Alexei Fedorov (1972), Belarus Grandmaster.
Vlad Cristian Jianu (1984), Romanian Grandmaster who was the Romanian Champion in 2006.
David Baramidze (1988), German Grandmaster born in Georgia.
Illya Nyzhnyk (1996), Ukrainian Grandmaster who was at 14 years and three months, the youngest Grandmaster in the world.
Jan Krejci (1992), Czech Grandmaster.

CHESS EVENTS

1970 USSR won the gold medal at the 19th Olympiad. However, they drew 6 matches and finished only one point ahead of Hungary.
1985 Max Dlugy USA won the World Junior Championship in Sharjah, UAE.
2013 In Turkey, Yu Yangyi from China and Goryachkina Aleksandra from Russia became the World Junior Champions 2013
