COMPOSITION
(from Latin composition- composing and compounding), a special brand of chess creativity, made up from practical play, directed to the uncovering of the beauty of chess combinations. The process of the creativity in composition produces artificial positions, e.g., composition with a problem for one of the sides, usually for White. These compositions are published in chess press, or submitted in special competitions. Solving a composition means discovering the sequence of the moves that lead to the solution of the problem. There are different kinds of compositions: orthodox compositions, heterodox and fairy compositions. Compositions are divided into Problems (specified number of moves for the solution) and Studies (unspecified number of moves for the solution).
