1964 A new record of 50 teams was registered at the 16th Olympiad in Tel Aviv. This was the first time all the continents were represented.
1991 Xie Jun CHN beat M. Chiburdanidze USSR 8½-6½ (+4-2=9) in Manila, Philippines. Thus for the first time since the end of WWII, a non-Soviet player became Women’s World Champion. Also, this was the first time a Chinese chess player had won the highest title.
1996 Karpov won the European Rapid Championship in Cap d’Agde, France.
1997 Russia won with 23½ points the 4th World Team Championship organized by Schach-Organisation in Lucerne, Switzerland.
