Singapore Grandmaster (1998) born in China. Asian Champion in 2005. FIDE Trainer (2011). World Junior Vice Champion in 1996. Champion of China in 2001. Youth Chinese Champion in 1990.
Learned the royal game when he was eight years old. Besides chess, Zhang Zhong has an interest in sports, music and literature.
Best results: He won in 1996, the Tan Chin Nam International, Budapest FS 1997, 1st; Chinese Sport Assembly Champion in 2002, in 2003; Wijk aan Zee II 2005, 1st; Jan Torch Cup in 2005, 1st; Manila intel Open 2007, 1st; Singapore Masters 2007, 1st-2nd; Tarakan (INA) 2008, 1st; Sydney Intl 2008, 1st-4th; Dubai Open 2004, 2nd.
He has been a member of the Chinese team in the Olympiads and other competitions from 1996 until 2006. In 2007, he moved to Singapore. He was awarded a gold medal for the best individual score in the 2005 Asian Team Championship.
