Yermolinsky, Alex (11.04.1958)
US Grandmaster (1992), born in Russia. Chemist and teacher at the Mechanics’ Institute. US Champion in 1996 and Co-Champion in 1993.
In the late 1980s, he left USSR and immigrated to the USA in 1990.
Best results: shared first place in the National Open in 1990. In 1992, he gained his selection in the National Team for the Olympiad in Manila. In 1993, he won the Las Vegas Open and the Philadelphia Open. In 1999 he won the US Open.
A participant in several World Championships. He was a member of the US Olympiad Team in 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998. He received the gold medal at the World Team Championship in Luzern in 1995 and a silver medal at the World Team Championship in Luzern in 1997.
His display of a terrific “execution” style quickly earned him the nickname the “Yerminator”. He was awarded the first “Grandmaster of the Year” title by the United States Chess Federation in 1997. He also won the 2000 Cramer Award for the best instructional Book:The Road to Chess Improvement.
His wife, Mrs. Camilla Baginskaite, also a chess player, won the US Women’s Championship. Contributed to our medal-winning teams in the Yerevan (1996) and Elista (1998) Olympiads.
