Chinese Grandmaster (1993), Woman Grandmaster (1990) and International Arbiter (2004). Women’s World Champion 1991-96 and 2000-01. World Junior Champion in 1988. Chinese Women’s Champion in 1988 and Youth Champion in 1984 and 1985.
She was one of the most successful female chess players of our time together with the Polgar sisters, Nana Gaprindashvili, Maya Chiburdanidze and Hou Yifan.
Her women’ s world champion carrier started in 1991 in Manila when she defeated the multiple titled champion Maya Chiburdanidze of Georgia 8½-6½. She retained her title in 1993, defeating Nona Ioseliani of Georgia 8½-2½ and held the crown until 1996 when Zsu. Polgar from Hungary defeated her 8½-4½ in Linares, but in 1999, she successfully regained it by defeating Alisa Galiamova from Russia and confirmed it once more after when she defeated her compatriot Qin Kanying in Delhi in 2000.

Between 1988 and 2004, she has represented China in many team events and won gold medals with the Chinese women’s team at the Olympiads in 1998, 2000 and 2004.
She retired from chess in 2004 then she married her former coach the GM Wu Shaobin. Now she directs an agency in the region of Beijing which looks for and trains talents in international chess, Chinese chess and Go.
In 1998, she published her autobiography in The Life and Games of Xie Jun.
