White,-AlanAmerican chess composer, a theorist, an author and a public figure. He composed his first problem in 1891.

Having collecting the largest number of the two-and three- movers (more than 250,000), he published in the period of 1905-36, on the basis of his collection, the so-called Christmas series with a total number of 44 volumes of the problems of famous problemists.

Author of the first in chess history a work on the classification of two-movers (1911). He published a work devoted to two-mover problems in the USSR with 200 problems of the Soviet composers in 1943 together with the American problemists, A.Bushke and R.Chini.

He was an active member of the organisation of “Good Companion”.
