He began to learn chess at the tender age of 4 and has already an impressive list of achievements, such as being the winner of Group-12 in the 1997 Hao Li Lai Cup Tournament, Champion of Group-10 in the 1997 S. T. Lee Tournament and winning the event a year later. In the World Championship U12 in 1997, finished with a respectable third place and improved upon his performance by bringing home the World Championship title for U12 two years later.
