Torre Carlos Repetto (23.11.1905 – 19.03.1978)
Mexican first Grandmaster (1977). In 1915 he moved with his family to New Orleans Began to play chess at the age of 10; his first success was in two round robin tournaments with seven participants in 1923. He performed the first in the Western States Championship held in New York in 1924. In February 1925, he drew a match with an American chess player Kupchik 3-3.Torre made a tour around Europe and performed the tenth in Baden-Baden 1925, equal third with Marshall in Marienbad in 1925, in Moscow in 1925, he shared fifth-sixth places with Tartakower, in Leningrad in 1925-26, shared the second-third places with Rokhlin. His last performance was in Chicago in 1926, where he was equal second; later, he gave up playing chess because of a nervous breakdown. He was a player of positional style, who was strong enough in the combinational game as well, contributed a new variation named after him. He was a man of a very mild and artistic temper, found chess as the most attractive game with its beauty and logic, but lacked the aggressiveness so necessary for the spirit of competition. Visiting Mexico in 1934, Lasker won a friendly match from him by +1=1-0.
