Sorokin-MaximRussian Grandmaster (1992) who played also for Argentina between 1998 and 2002. Coach in Argentina, India, and Russia.

Best results: won or shared first at Podolsk 1989, Sochi 1989, Belgorod 1991, San Fernando 1993, San Martin in 1993, Buenos Aires Open 1997 and 1998 and Villa Martelli 1997, Boca Juniors Buenos Aires 1998, Chigorin Memorial and Commonwealth Championship (IND) in 2000, Murzagaliev 1st Memorial (KAZ) 2003 Polyarniy Krug 2004 Open.
Also, he finished third in the 1991 Soviet championship. In a match, he beat Koneru Humpy 5-3 in 2004.

A participant in the 1998 and 2000 Olympiads under the Argentine flag.

Sorokin died in a car accident while coaching Rublevsky at the 2007 Candidates’ matches in Elista.
