Icelandic Grandmaster (1975). Second Icelandic Grandmaster. A lawyer. Champion of Iceland in 1965, 1968 and 1972.

Best results:  Reykjavik 1970, 1^st; Chicago 1973, 2^nd; Gausdal 1974, 1^st; San-Feliu 1974,1^st-2^nd; Orense 1976, 1^st-3^rd; Esbjerg 1978, 2^nd; Skien 1978,1^st; Brighton 1982, 1^st-3^rd; Ranners Zonal 1982, 3^rd. He was also second at Hastings 1974-75, Cienfuegos 1976 and third at the Zonal at Vratsa.

Sigurjonsson has participated in the Olympiads from 1966 until 1986. Retired from chess in 1986.
