Savon Vladimir Andreevich (26.09.1940 – 01.06.2005)

Ukrainian Grandmaster (1973). Coach. Savon competed in the Soviet championship eleven times, from 1961 to the last championship in 1991.

Undoubtedly his best result there, or elsewhere, was his first place in the 1971 championship with an undefeated 15/21. He was also third in 1973.

Best results: Moscow 1964, 1^st-2^nd; Budapest 1965, 1^st; Debrecen 1970, 1^st-2^nd; Mar del Plata 1971, 2^nd-3^rd; Sukhumi 1972, 2^nd; Dortmund 1975, 3^rd; Odessa and Yerevan 1976 and Ljubljana-Portoroz 1977, 2^nd-3^rd; Pernik 1982, 1^st-2^nd.

In FIDE Zonals, he succeeded first-fourth in 1975 and finished eleventh-thirteenth in 1978, finished also eighth at the Petropolis Interzonal in 1973. A member of winning Soviet team in the 1972 Olympiad.
