English Grandmaster (1993), journalist and author. British Champion in 1995. Bronze medal at the World U16 in 1989.

The author of The Slav, Semi-Slav (1998), Tips for Young Players (1999), Queen’s Gambit Declined (2000), Chess with Matthew Sadler (2013), and Chess for Life (2015).
A member of the team which won the European Team Championship in 1997. He was awarded a gold medal for the best performance at board 4 in the Olympiad of 1996 and gold for the best performance at board 4 in the European Team Championship in 1997. Wageningen and Sants Open.
