Romanovsky Petr Arsenievich (17.07.1892 – 01.03.1964)
Soviet Russian International Master (1950), International Arbiter (1951).
Born in St. Petersburg. One of the strongest chess players in the 1920s, he was the first Soviet chess player who was awarded the title of Honoured Master of the USSR in 1934 and Honoured Coach of the USSR in 1957. He coached Alatortsev, Antoshin, Chekhover, etc. A chess theorist and author. USSR Champion in 1923 and 1927.
Best results achieved between 1920-35: All-Russia Olympiad, 2nd; USSR Championship 1924, 2nd; Leningrad 1925, 1st-2nd; Leningrad 1929, 1st-2nd; Moscow 1934, 2nd.
During the worst period of the Siege of Leningrad in the winter of 1941-42, a rescue party reached his home. They found Romanovsky half-conscious from starvation and the cold.
