Robatsch Karl (14.10.1928 – 19.09.2000)
Austrian Grandmaster (1961). Champion of Austria in 1960. Orchidologist. He passed away in 2000 after a long battle with stomach and throat cancer.

Robatsch is also known for his contribution in the opening: King’s Fianchetto Defence, or the Modern Defence, or the Ujtelky Defence.
He played on a number of Austrian Olympiad teams from 1954 to 1980, winning the gold medal at board 1 in the 1960 Olympiad.
