Pinkus Albert Sydney (29.03.1903 – 04.02.1984)
U.S. American Master born in New York. A stockbroker.
In his early twenties, Pinkus won two important tournaments: the Hallgarten Tournament, 1925, and the Junior Masters Tournament, 1927. In both events he out-pointed Kashdan.
Pinkus remained one of the country’s leading players until 1932 when he embarked on a series of ten expeditions to the jungles of British Guyana and Venezuela to collect zoological and botanical specimens.
In 1939, he returned to New York and resumed his chess career. He won the Marshall Chess Club championship in 1927 and 1928 and the Manhattan Chess Club championship in 1941 and again in 1945 which made him the only one, besides Frank Marshall, to win both club championships. He tied Denker for third place in the U.S. championship of 1942 and placed fifth in 1944.
