Best results: European Youth Championship 2002 – Under 18, tied 1st – bronze medal; First Saturday GM B tournament 2002 in Budapest, 1st; Heart of Finland chess tournament 2003 in Jyväskylä, 1st; Najdorf Memorial round-robin tournament (category 15, 2608) 2003 in Warsaw, tied 2nd; European Individual Chess Championship of 2008, tied 2nd; FIDE World Cup 2009, 2nd round; 10th European Individual Championship 2009, tied 1st but was knocked out in the 1st round;

He played for the Finnish team in the Chess Olympiads of 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. He is one of the few players to have a positive lifetime score against World Champion Magnus Carlsen.
