Cuban Grandmaster (1979). Cuban Champion or co-Champion in 1979, 1984, 1988, 1991, 1993 and 2000. He finished second at the Interzonal at Taxco in 1985.
Best results: won or shared first at Havana 1981, Pinar del Rio and Manzanillo 1983, Santa Clara, Cienfuego in 1983 and 1984, Bayamo 1987, Najdorf 1991, Linares-Mexico 1993, Havana 1994, Torre Memorial 1997, Ontario, Villa Clara and Guil. Garcia Memorial 1998, Capablanca Memorial II 2004, Guil. Garcia Memorial 2005 and 2008.
A participant in 14 Olympiads since 1980 and in 4 Panamerican Team Championships where he collected 4 team gold and 2 individual silver medals.
Nogueiras received the title of World Senior Coach for his contribution to the formation of Cuban GMs such as Guillermo Garcia, Frank de la Paz and Yunieski Quesada.
