Italian Correspondence Grandmaster (1953). Italian Correspondence Champion in 1941 and 1947. In 1953, Dr. Mario Napolitano finished 2nd-3rd with Harald Malmgren, behind Cecil Purdy, in the 1st World Correspondence Chess Championship. He took 7th in the 2nd WCC (1956-1959), and 5th in the 3rd WCC (1959-1962).
Best results (OTB): Milan 1938, 1st; Italian championship 1939, 3-4th; Firenze 1943, 2nd; Reggio Emilia 1957, 2nd; San Benedetto del Tronto 1961 and 2nd and Rovigo 1966, 2nd.
