The first French International Master (1951). Graduated as an engineer of bridges and highways. Champion of Paris 1922.
A participant in the Olympiads of 1927, 1928, 1935 and 1956. His best achievement was at Margate in 1923 when he finished second together with Alexander Alekhine. He was the only French player besides Alexander Alekhine to beat Jose Raul Capablanca in a quick-play game.
A volunteer in the First World War, he won the Croix de Guerre. A great collector of chess items.
