MotwaniScottish Grandmaster (1992). Secondary school teacher, coach and chess journalist who has lived in Belgium since 1999, a coach.
World U17 Champion in 1978, ahead of Nigel Short. In the same year he became the youngest ever Scottish Champion – a title he has won on seven subsequent occasions (1986, 1987, 1993, 2002 and 2003).

Best results: winner or shared first at London WFW 1988, and was also fourth at the British Championship 2003.
A participant in nine Olympiads between 1986 and 2004.

The author of H.O.T. Chess (1996), S.T.A.R. Chess (1998), Chess under the Microscope (1998), Most Instructive Games of the Young Grandmasters (1999), and C.O.O.L. Chess (2001).

Peak rating: 2544 in 2004.
