BIRTHS

Albert Rothschild (1844-11.02.1911), an Austrian Banker and chess patron who sponsored many tournaments in Vienna.
Pierre Charles Fournier de Saint-Amant (12.09.1800- 1872), was a leading French chess master and an editor of one of the major chess periodicals of that time:  Le Palamède.
Nathan Divinsky (1925-17.06.2012), a Canadian mathematician, university professor, chess master, chess writer, and editor of Canadian Chess Chat for many years.
Xu Yuhua (1976), a Chinese Grandmaster and Woman Grandmaster who won the Women’s World Chess Championship knock-out tournament in 2006.
Evgeny Sharapov(1981), an Ukrainian Grandmaster.

DEATHS

Alberto Fidi, (16.07 1882-1958), an Italian player, FIDE Life Member.

CHESS EVENTS

1966 The FIDE GA approved the reelection of Folke Rogard (SWE) as President.
2008 The Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand defended his title of  World Chess Champion in Bonn, Germany, without any problem against V. Kramnik (RUS).   The main sponsor was Evonik Industries AG and the prize money was 1½ million Euro.
