BIRTHS

Carl Walbrodt (1871-03.10.1902), a German chess master born in Amsterdam who tied for 1st with Curt von Bardeleben at Kiel 1893 (the 8th DSB Congress).
Thomas Dawson (1889-16.12.1951), a British composer who worked on the development of Fairy Chess by creating many fairy pieces and new conditions.
Alexander Ilyin-Genevsky (1894-03.09.1941), a Soviet Master, organizer, and a political activist.
Hans Rehm (1942), German composer and Grandmaster for chess composition.
Nikolai Pushkov (1946), a Russian Grandmaster, International Arbiter who won the European Senior Championship 2012.
Giorgi Bagaturov (1964), a Georgian-Armenian Grandmaster and coach who won three Georgian championships.
Rustem Dautov (1965), a German Grandmaster, author and coach born in Russia. In 2002, Dautov became a professional poker player but he is still playing regularly in the German Chess Bundesliga.
Kiril Georgiev (1965), a Bulgarian Grandmaster and six-time national champion who became the World Junior Champion in 1983.
Valerij Filippov (1975), a Russian Grandmaster.
Evgeny Alekseev (1985), a Russian Grandmaster and Russian Champion in 2006.
Romain Edouard (1990), a French Grandmaster who was joint French Champion in 2012 and European Youth Chess Championship U16 in 2006.

DEATH

Mark Taimanov (07.02.1926- 2016) a Russian Grandmaster, a  world-class concert pianist and author who won the USSR Chess Championship in 1956. Like Bent Larsen, Taimanov lost a Candidates match by 6–0 to Bobby Fischer.

CHESS EVENTS

1971 In Buenos-Aires, despite a loss in the second game, which ended a run of 20 victories, Robert Fischer did not have too many problems clearing the road to the World Championship Match. His victory over Tigran Petrosian 6½-2½ was enough to finish the match 3 games early.
1977 In Auckland, The Philippines won the 2nd Asian Team Championship.
1985 In Luzern, The USSR won the first World Team Championship with 37.5 points. Hungary was the runner-up and England was third.
