IosifDorfman (1952), French Grandmaster (1978) born in Ukraine, 1977 USSR Champion and 1998 French Champion, second of Kasparov in 1984-87. Lives in France, coach and Author.

Alexander Ivanov (1956), American Grandmaster (1978) born in Omsk, Russia. Co-winner of the 1995 U.S. Championship andAmerica Continental Champion in 1998 and 2000.

Ziaur Rahman (1974) Bangladeshi chess Grandmaster (1993) graduated from University of Dhaka. He was Bangladesh champion fourteen times.

  1. 1841. England. First weekly issue of the Chess Player’s Chronicle is published.
  2. 1845. USA. The first American chess column appreared in the New York Spirit of the Times and was edited by C.H. Stanley.

1928Netherland. FIDE President A. Rueb wrote some suggestions on the future of the World Championship matches. He proposed to reduce the prize fund to SF 10.000 (in London 1922 the strongest players of the World including Alekhine and Capablanca decided to play for a minimum amount of US$ 10.000) and organize the match every 3rd year. The winner would be the first who won 4 games out of a maximum of 25 games.
