Vladimir Makogonov (27.08.1904- 1993), Soviet-Azerbaijani Grandmaster who was a five-time champion of Azerbaijan from 1947 to 1952.
Arnold Denker(20.02.1914-2005), an honorary Grandmaster and writer who was U.S. Champion in 1944 and 1946.
