Harry Nelson Pillsbury (1872-17.06.1906), an American Master, one of the best world player of the beginning of the 20th century but his poor health and other sicknesses prevented him from reaching the level of Lasker, Steinitz or Chigorin.
Haji Ardiansyah (1951), an Indonesian Grandmaster who won 5 times the Indonesian Championship.
Ron W. Henley (1956), an American grandmaster, a writer, and a financial analyst. For many years he worked as a second with Anatoly Karpov.
Viesturs Meijers (1965), a Latvian Grandmaster who was the Latvian Champion in 2000.
Krystyna Dabrowska (1973), a Polish Woman Grandmaster who won the World Girls U16 and U20 World Championships. ,
Tatiana Kononenko (1978), a Ukrainian International Master and Woman Grandmaster.
Rustam Kasimdzhanov (1979), an Uzbekistani Grandmaster, coach and author living in Germany. He is best known for winning the 2004 FIDE World Chess Championship 2004 in Tripoli.
Zbigniew Pakleza (1986), a Polish Grandmaster who is a multiple medalist at the Polish Junior Chess Championship.

DEATHS

Henry Wald Bettmann (14.01.1868-1935), an American composer.
Miguel Cuellar Gacharna (16.11.1916-1985), a Colombian International Master who won the Colombian championship eight times.
Erik Lundin (02.07.1904-1988), a Swedish Honorary Grandmaster. Swedish champion, he won four Olympic medals.
David Bronstein (19.02.1924-2006), a Soviet-Ukrainian Grandmaster and writer.  He came close to win the World Chess Championship when he drew the 1951 challenge match for the title of World Champion by a score of 12–12 with Mikhail Botvinnik, the reigning champion.
Győző Victor Forintos (30 July 1935-2018), a Hungarian Grandmaster, author and economist.
