David Hume (1862-14.01.1936), a Scottish chess composer.
Marcel Berman (1895-03.07.1960), a French player and FIDE VP.
Milan Vidmar (1909 09.11.1980), a Slovenian Grandmaster born in Austria. As a member of the Yugoslav team, he was awarded a team gold medal at the 1950 Olympiad.
Sonja Graf-Stevens (1914-06.03.1965), a German Women International Master who lived in Argentina and the United States. She was the Women’s World Candidate and a two-time winner of the U.S. Women’s Chess Championship.
Arshak Petrosian (1953), an Armenian Grandmaster who was the Armenian Champion in 1974 and 1976.
Sinisa Drazic (1967), a Serbian Grandmaster, journalist and coach.
Fernando Peralta (1979), an Argentine Grandmaster who was Argentine Champion in 2006.
Sandugach Shaydullina (1981), a Russian Woman Grandmaster.
Vera Nebolsina (1989), a Russian Woman Grandmaster.
Daniele Vocaturo (1989), a top Italian Grandmaster.

DEATHS

Thomas Rayner Dawson (28.11.1889-1951), a British chess composer.
Ivan Nemet (14.04.1943-2007), a Swiss-Serbian Grandmaster who was Yugoslav  Champion in 1979 and Swiss Champion in 1990.
Nikola Karaklajic (24.02.1926-2008), a Serbian Grandmaster, International Arbiter and journalist who was the national champion in 1955.

CHESS EVENTS

1937 Alexander Alekhine regained his title back in Holland by beating Euwe 15½-9½.
1969 Nona Gaprindashvili (USSR) won the first European Cup for Women in Vrnjacka Banja, Yugoslavia.
2000 In India, Xie Jun of China retained her title as Women’s World Champion.
2007 In Khanty-Mansiysk, Gata Kamsky of USA, undefeated, won the World Cup. In the final he beat Alexei Shirov of Spain 2.5-1.5.

WORLD EVENTS

1707 Last recorded eruption of Mount Fuji in Japan.
1770 Ludwig van Beethoven, composer was born (d. 1827).
1944 A single-engine plane carrying U.S. Army Major Glenn Miller disappeared in thick fog over the English Channel while en route to Paris.
