George Salwe (1862-15.12.1920), a Polish Master.
Akiba Rubinstein (1882-15.03.1961), a Polish Grandmaster who lived the last part of his life in Belgium. Akiba was one of the best players of his time, but unfortunately, he was denied the opportunity to play for the world title.
Brian Patrick Reilly (1901-29.12.1991), an Irish Master, writer and magazine editor.
Charles Pelle, (1911-08.08.1965), a French composer.
Wolfgang Pietzsch (1930-28.12.1996), a German Grandmaster who was the Champion of the German Democratic Republic in 1960, 1962 and 1967.
Martin Mrva (1971), a Slovakian Grandmaster who was Slovakian Champion in 1989.
Zhao Jun (1986), a Chinese Grandmaster who was a member of the national team which won the Asian Team Championship in 2008.

DEATHS

Emanuel Schiffers (04.05.1850-1904), a Russian Master and chess writer who was the second leading Russian player after Mikhail Chigorin.
Leopold Trebitsch (1842-1906), an Austrian player and chess patron. After his death, the Wiener Schachklub organized a Memorial Tournament from 1907 until 1938.
Ilya Kan (04.05.1909-1978), a Soviet Master who contributed to the development of the Sicilian defence.
