Heinrich Wagner 1888 24.06.1959), Germany player who won the team bronze medal at the Olympiad of Hamburg in 1930.
Lubomir Kavalek (1943), Czech-American Grandmaster, a chess columnist. He was co-winner of the 1973 U.S. Chess Championship with John Grefe, and won it in solo in 1978.
John van der Wiel (1959) Dutch Grandmaster who was the European Junior Champion in 1978 and the champion of the Netherlands in 1986.

1952 The 10th Olympiad took place in Helsinki, Finland. with 25 countries registered. USSR took part in the competition for the first time.
1955 Boris Spassky of USSR won the 3rd World Junior Championship in Antwerp, Belgium. It was the first participation of a Soviet player at a Youth Championship.
1965 The team of USSR won the 12th World Student Team Championship in Sinaia.
1994 At the World Championship Quarterfinals organized by Shanghi Industries in Shanghi Nagar, India, B. Gelfand (BLR) beat V. Kramnik (RUS) 4½-3½; V. Salov (RUS) beat J. Timman (NED) 4½-3½ and G. Kamsky (USA) beat V. Anand (IND) after tiebreak (4-4, 2-0).
