1938 FIDE confirmed the full admission of Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. At the request of Hungary, France, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Italy, Argentina and Great Britain, the FIDE GA agreed to reconsider the membership of Germany (GDDB).
1959 Carlos Bielicki of Argentina won the 5th World Junior Championship in Munchenstein, Switzerland.
1965 Candidates Semi-Final Match in Bled, Tal (USSR) beat B. Larsen (DEN) 5½-4½.
1981 S. Conquest ENG won the 5th World U16 Championship in Embalse, Argentina.
1989 The FIDE GA approved the creation of the Presidential Board to exercise, in the emergency, the rights of the General Assembly, Central Committee or Executive Council in between their respective meetings.
1994 M. Taimanov (RUS) won for the second time the World Senior Championship organized in Biel, Switzerland.
