Arpad Elo (1903-1992), an American, physics by profession, who was the inventor of the modern Elo rating system use by FIDE since 1971.
Alexander Nenashev (1962), German Grandmaster born in Uzbekistan. He changed his name to Graf. He won the Uzbek championship in 1989 and the German championship in 2004.
Vasilios Kotronias (1964), Greek Grandmaster, coach and author who then 10 times the Greek championship.
Hamdouchi, Adina-Maria, (1979), French Women Grandmaster who married to the GM Hichem Hambouchi and is currently living in Qatar.

DEATHS

Max Blau (19.12.1918-1984), Swiss international Master who won four times the Swiss championship.
Gideon Stahlberg (1908- 25.08 1933), Swedish Grandmaster, Arbiter, and author who has participated in 13 Olympiads and won the Swedish championship in 1927.
