Paul Vaitonis (1911-23.04.1983), Lithuanian–Canadian International Master of chess. He was a five-time Lithuanian Champion and was twice Canadian Champion.
Gino Mentasti (1913-29.11.2002), Italian chess composer who was International Master for Chess Composition.
Gijssen Geurt (1934), Dutch International Arbiter who was many times the Chief Arbiter of world championships from 187 until 2010.

1948.15.08 The young D. Bronstein USSR won the first Interzonal Tournament in Saltjobaden, Sweden. First prize was $550. In the opinion of many, this tournament was one of the strongest ever to have been played until then. The top five qualified for the Candidates Tournament.
1997 15.08 Egypt won the African team Championship held in Cairo.
2012 15.08 GM Alexander Ipatov and WGM Guo Qi became  World Junior Chess Champions for boys and girls at the WJCC 2012 in Athens, Greece.
