Mikenas Vladas Ionovich (17.04.1910 – 03.11.1992)

Mikenas-Vladas-IonovichLithuanian Grandmaster (1987), International Master in Correspondence Chess, International Arbiter (1968). One of the chief arbiters at the World Championship Match Karpov-Kasparov in 1985, and was the chief arbiter of seven Candidates’ and Challengers’ Matches. Chess journalist.

Champion of Lithuania in 1945, 1947-48, 1964 and 1968 and from the Baltic countries in 1945 and 1965.

On three occasions, in 1941, 1945 and 1946, he played the Georgian Championship, finishing third, first and second, respectively.

Best results: Tallinn 1930, 1st; Helsinki 1930, 1st; Lublin 1971, 1st; Riga 1959, 2nd; Sofia 1962, 5th-6th Coach of Paul Keres during the period 1956-1963. He was the captain of the national Lithuanian team at five Olympiads (from 1931 until 1939).
