Ecuadorian Grandmaster. First ever Ecuadorian Grandmaster. He was awarded one gold and one silver for the best and second best individual performance at board 3 at the Olympiads of 1982 and 1986 and a gold for the best score at board 1 of the Panamerican Team Championship in 2003.

Won or shared first at Loures 1998, Villa de Correa del Rio 2004, Villa de Salobrena and Zonal 2.3 in 2005, Bratto Open 2008, Caguas Open (PUR) 2009, Malaga Open 2010, Forni di Sopra Open 2011.

A participant in the Olympiads since 1982.
