Marovic Drazen (14.01.1938)
Croatian Grandmaster (1975) and chess journalist. His first good international result was an equal eleventh at the very strong Zagreb tournament of 1965. In 1968 he was equal first with Ivkov at Malaga, and in 1969 at Constanta, he was equal fourth/15. In 1970 came one of his best tournament results when he was fourth in Skopje ahead of Svetozar Gligoric and Yuri Balashov. At Banja Luka in 1974, he was equal eighth with Enver Bukic and Istvan Csom. In 1975 he was equal seventh with William Lombardy and Ivo Nei at Tallin. Won also Virovitica 1978 and Sainte Maxime in 1982. Editor of the Yugoslav chess magazine Sahovski Glasnik; he published Teorija Otvorenja (2 volumes, 1971 and 1973), together with Susic. In English he is the author of An Opening Repertoire for Black (with Parma) (1978 and reprinted in 1987). Also the author of Dynamic Pawn Play in Chess (2001), Understanding Pawn Play in Chess, Play the Queen’s Gambit (1998), Secrets of Positional Play (2003) and Secrets of Chess Transformations (2004).
