A Spanish chess player from the end of the fifteenth to the beginning of the sixteenth centuries.
Author of the book “Repeticion de Amores e Arte de Axedrez”, published no later than 1497, consisting of two parts, in which the first part does not concern the game of chess, but the second one is devoted to the rules of the play, and contains the analysis of 11 openings and 150 problems collected, according to old and new rules. It was the first printed edition including witnesses that the game of chess was known with new rules in Europe at the end of the fifteenth century. Von der Lasa has worked on a German translation which was published in Berlin (Schachzeitung) in 1869.
He is credited with the authorship of the Göttingen manuscript.
