Lancel was probably better known to be the founder of the famous L’ Echiquier in February 1925, a monthly magazine, whose contributors are notables like Alexander Alekhine, Thomas Rayner Dawson and Savelly Tartakower.
He was a participant in the first Tournament of Nations of Paris in 1924, where he drew 1-1 with Richard Reti.
