Russian Woman Grandmaster (1976). 1996 Senior Women’s World Chess Champion, 2014 Euroepan Women’s World Champion. Biochemist.
A participant in 15 Soviet Women Championships between 1960 and 1982,  She won the championship in 1965 and came second in 1974.

Best results: Briansk 1965, 1^st; Budapest 1966 and 1980, 1^st; Warsaw 1970, 1^st; Irkoutsk 1971, 1^st; Belgrade 1975, 1^st; Halle 1976, 1^st; Minorca Interzonal 1973, 1^st; Subotica Women’s Candidates Tournament 1976, 2^nd; Tbilisi Interzonal 1976, 2-3^rd.
In the Candidates matches, she lost to Irina Levitina 5 ½-6 ½ (3 -4 = 5) in 1974 and to Elena Fatalibekova 2-6 (0 -4 = 4) in 1977. A participant in 1966 Women Olympiad where she won an individual gold medal for the best performance
