Estonian Grandmaster (2006). Second best Estonian player in 2011. Kanep was the Champion of Estonia 2004, 2005 and 2007. He has also been a participant in the Olympiads since 2002.

Best results: Heart of Finland Open 2004 and 2007, 1^st-4^th; Keres Memorial (A) Rapid 2005, 1^st and Keres Memorial (B) Rapid 2007, 1^st, Estonia championship 2010, 2-3^rd, Keres Memorial 2010, 2-5^th.
