Australian Grandmaster (1995). Johansen was five times Champion of Australia (1984, 1988, 1990, 2000, 2002 a,d 2012).

Best results: winner of the Australian Master 2001, Victoria Championship 2002 and 2003, Auckland Open 2004, Nelson International (NZ) 2007, Sydney International Open 2009 and the Queenstown Chess Classic in 2012.

A participant in fourteen Olympiads between 1980 and 2010 and at the 2004 World Championship.  He is currently co-director of a chess teaching company,”Chess Ideas (Australia)”, based in Melbourne.
