Russian Grandmaster (2001). European Champion in 2015. Jakovenko was Vice-Champion of Russia in 2005 and 2006, World U18 Champion in 2001 and one of the best world juniors in 2002.
Best results: co-winner at Pardubice Open and Aosta Open in 2002, 12th at the Russian championship 2003, 1st at Montreal World tournament in 2005, 1st at Poikovsky 2007 and in 2008, 2ndat Aeroflot Open 2007, at Pamplona 2007, at Corus B 2007; 3rd at the 2007 European Individual Championship; Russian Cup 2013, 2014 and 2016, 1st; Khanty Mansyisk FIDE Grand Prix 2014–15, 1st; Poikovsky Karpov Tournament 2018, 1st.
A participant in the 2008 and 2010 Olympiads, he was a member of the gold medal-winning Russian team at the 2009 World Team Chess Championship and at the European Team Chess Championships of 2007 and 2015.
Peak rating: 2760 in 2009, Jakovenko was then the 5th best ranked player of the world.
