Ivanov Alexander (01.05.1956)

Ivanov-aAmerican Grandmaster (1991) born in Russia. In 2010 he became US Senior Champion.

Alexander learned the rules of the game from his father when he was about 6 years old. He became USSR champion for young masters in 1980. After he arrived in the U.S. in 1988, Alexander made an immediate strong impression by sharing first place in both the 1989 National and World Open events.

Alexander’s best results include tying for first with Anatoly Karpov and Boris Gulko at the 1992 Moscow tournament, winning the U.S. Championship 1995 with Patrick Wolff and De Firmian, becoming the Pan American Champion in 1998 and sharing first place in Los Angeles in 1996; US Open 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001; World Open; Continental Open in 2006; Foxwood Open in 2008 and Bermuda Open in 2008, Continental Open 2017.
A participant in the 2002 Olympiad, in the World Championships in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2004 and in the 2009 World Cup.

Alexander is married to the International Women Master Esther Epstein.
