Hannak Dr. Jacques (12.03.1892-14.11.1973)

Hannak-Dr.-JacquesAustrian chess amateur, author and journalist (Arbeit und Wirtschaft, after 1946 Arbeiterzeitung).

After been interned by the Nazis in 1938/39 in Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps, he emigrated to Belgium in 1939 then to France up to 1941 from where he managed to reach the USA where he was employed by the Office of War Information (radio broadcasting department).
In 1946 he returned to Vienna.

The author of the well-known biography of Lasker: Emanuel Lasker Biographie eines Schachweltmeisters, first published in 1952 with a foreword by Albert Einstein.
He was co-editor of the Wiener Schachzeitung between 1936 and -1938.
