Grigoriev Nikolai Dmitrijevich (14.08.1895 – 10.11.1938)

Soviet player, analyst and composer of endgame studies, mathematics teacher. During the 1920s he won the Moscow championships three times in 1921, 1922, 1923-4, and again in 1923 by defeating Vasily Panov after tie-break (+6=3 – 3). A participant in all 6 USSR championships between 1920 and 1929, his best achievement was equal 5th in 1920. In 1923 he drew matches against Vladimir Nenarokov and Vladimir Zubarev (both +5 –5). Grigoriev was the President of the organizing committee for the three Moscow International Tournaments held between the two world wars. Journalist, he was chess editor for Izvestia (1922-1933) and a member of the editorial team of Shakhmaty v SSSR and 64.
