LEGAL’S MATE

Brought about by the French player Legal de Kermar. The combination realized once in his well-known game Legal vs. Saint-Brie 1750 was called after his name – Legal’s Mate. The mat’s pattern have been seen also in the games Horowitz-Bledow Berlin, 1837 and Tarrasch-Chigorin St. Petersburg (5) 1893.
