ISOLATED PAWN
Also named Isolata, a pawn that has no allied pawn on the adjacent files. Often appears in some position of the Queen’s Gambit, Caro Kann-Panov or Tarrasch. Used during the World Championships by Boris Spassky vs. Tigran Petrosian in 1969 and Viktor Korchnoi against Anatoly Karpov in 1978, its strength is felt in the middlegame, its weakness in the endgame.
