HYPERMODERN

A school of thought, a style of play developed in the 1920s, as a reaction to the established and dogmatic Steinitz/Tarrasch teachings. The leaders of this school were Aaron Nimzowitsch and Richard Reti, ably seconded by Xavier Tartakower, Gruenfeld and Breyer. The heroes of this movement were Richard Réti and Aaron Nimzowitsch, Xavier Tartakover of whom of controlling expounded the idea the center from the flanks by using the fianchetto as the principal element.
