FERZ

(Arabic for General or Minister) Medieval piece which supplanted the Farzin.  The Ferz is the predecessor of the Queen.
The piece was originally called the mantri (Sanskrit for “minister” or “counsellor”), which was translated by the Persians to farzin, which means “counsellor” or “wise man”. This was shortened by the Arabs to firz, and this became ferz or fers in Medieval Europe. Its name later changed to the queen, but when that name started being used for the modern chess queen, its former name ferz or fers began to be used in chess problems.
It moves to a diagonally adjacent square and like the Bishop, can never get to 32 of the 64 squares on the board.
Ferz is the name of the Queen in Russian, Belorussian and Tartar.  A 1,1 leaper. (source Wikipedia)
