CHESS

The mchess playusical play was written in 1986 by Tim Rice, the former playwriting partner of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of the pop group ABBA. Chess is based on the Fischer – Spassky World Championship match of 1972. The play is in two acts: the first one opens in Merano and the second one in Bangkok. It was at the time the most expensive play ever put on stage, with a budget of more than US$4 million. A double-record album of the musical has been a huge success. The hot single “One Night in Bangkok” has been N° 3 in the US and the “I Know Him So Well” made it to the top of the singles chart in Great Britain.
