Georgian Grandmaster (1993). President of the Georgian chess federation since 2008. The organizer of the 2018 Olympiads.

Best results: won or shared first at Warsaw Open 1989, San Sebastian Open 1991, Tbilisi GM 1991, Baden-Baden 1991, Cuxhaven Open 1993, Linares Open 1997 and Bad Worishofen in 1998. Also 2nd at Podolsk 1992, Goodricke Open 1994, Ankara zonal 1995, Kropotkin GM 1995, La Coruna Open 1995 and 1996, Benasque Open 1996, Elgoibar 1997, Solin 1998 and Aceimar 1999.

A participant in 5  Olympiads between 1992 and 2006, in 2006 he was awarded a bronze medal for the third best individual performance on board two.
